People with knowledge of the deal say new investors this round include Shixi Capital, SMIC Juyuan, CPE Yuanfeng, Legend Capital and Geely, mostly industrial investors, alongside first-round backers including CATL, Tencent, IDG Capital, Lishi Capital and Shixiang Capital. DeepSeek’s first external round opened in April 2026 and closed at the end of June, raising about 51 billion yuan at a post-money valuation near 400 billion yuan — the largest single round in China’s AI large-model industry to date. Founder Liang Wenfeng personally contributed about 20 billion yuan as the largest single investor; Tencent about 10 billion; the CATL group about 5 billion; NetEase, JD.com, Lishi Capital and IDG Capital about 3 billion each; Zhengxin Valley Investment and Shixiang Technology about 1.5 billion each; and the national AI industry investment fund about 980 million. Most new backers have clear industrial backgrounds: Shixi Capital was launched by the investment team of memory-chip leader GigaDevice, focusing on IC design and semiconductor materials; SMIC Juyuan is backed by SMIC; Legend Capital is Lenovo Holdings’ investment platform; and Geely is a leading automaker. Caijing notes that compared with the first round, Liang Wenfeng favoured industrial investors that can bring upstream and downstream synergies. DeepSeek is also accelerating its IPO: since late August 2026 it has been talking to investment banks about a STAR Market listing, has hired CITIC Securities and aims to file by the end of 2026 for a 2027 listing. Sponsors have been reviewing investor backgrounds since late September, asking some to convert special funds into blind-pool filings so the fund counts as a single shareholder and avoids breaching the 200-shareholder cap. Former Hillhouse Ventures partner Yan Wentao joined DeepSeek as CFO in late September 2026. DeepSeek was founded in 2023 by quantitative hedge fund Zhejiang Jiuzhang Asset Management (formerly Hangzhou Huanfang Technology). In September 2026 it released DeepSeek-V4.1-Flash, and reports say annualised revenue has passed $1 billion.
