IT Home, Oct. 13 — Investment outlet ChinaVenture reported today that Shenzhen Sight Tower Robotics has completed an angel funding round, with investors including Huawei's Hubble Ventures, a fund under Shenzhen High-Tech Investment, and Gaoxuan Investment; Duowei Capital acted as exclusive financial adviser. The round will fund product R&D iteration and commercialisation across embodied intelligence, consumer electronics and industrial scenarios. Sight Tower starts from flexible photonic crystal materials and focuses on tactile sensing and robotic manipulation. Its core R&D team comes from the Intelligent Liquid Crystal Optics Laboratory at the Southern University of Science and Technology, and founder and CEO Dr. Zhang Wei was jointly trained by SUSTech and City University of Hong Kong. The company has extended photonic crystal tactile technology into tactile sensors, data-acquisition systems and tactile control models. According to the Shenzhen International Advanced Technology Application Promotion Centre, Sight Tower has developed its own new flexible photonic crystal functional soft material, using nanoscale periodic structures to build a mechanics-to-optics mapping, achieving a sensing density above 10,000 points/cm², multi-dimensional force characterisation and excellent linearity — and creating the only high-density tactile sensing solution that is under 1mm thin and flexible/conformal, a photonic crystal visuo-tactile electronic skin that makes full-body robotic coverage possible, applicable to industrial dexterous manipulation, home tidying, smart homes and acupuncture robots.
