This tutorial shows you how to use the source code to run the classic version of OpenCut locally: install the environment, pull the code, load the dependency, start the service, then build the project, upload the material, cut the first video, and finally explain how to deploy it to your own domain name for the team to share.

Step 1: Prepare the environment (about 5 minutes)第一步：准备环境（约 5 分钟）
Install Node.js 20 or later (the official website LTS installation package can be the next step), and after the installation is completed, execute node -v and npm -v in the terminal to confirm that the publication number can be input.
It is recommended to install a package manager pnpm (npm i -g pnpm) at the same time. Front-end projects such as OpenCut use pnpm to load faster and save disk.
If you are accustomed to using containers, you can just install Docker and run the entire environment in the container, at the cost of slow reading and writing of local files.
Make sure your browser is a newer version of Chrome or Edge: Clip preview relies on modern browser capabilities, and older versions of the kernel will work.

Step 2: Download the source code and install the dependencies第二步：下载源码并安装依赖
Download the complete OpenCut Classic source code package (about 4.5 MB) from the "AI Tools" section of this site and extract it to the working directory, for example, D:\projects\opencut.
Enter the decompressed directory, execute pnpm install in the terminal (use npm install without pnpm), and wait for the dependency download to complete; the first installation is usually a few minutes.
If you are relying on the installation of Halfway to report network errors, first execute npm config set registry https://registry.npmmirror.com to replace it with a domestic image and try again.
After the installation, check whether the root directory has package.json and apps/or src/. The path is wrong. The decompression level is wrong.

Step 3: Start and open the clip console第三步：启动并打开剪辑台
Execute pnpm dev in the project root directory, and the terminal will output a local address (such as http://localhost: 3000).
When the browser opens the address, you can see the clipping interface of OpenCut; the first entry is a blank workspace, and the toolbar in the upper left corner allows you to create a new project or open a project.
Drag the video, audio, or image directly into the interface or click Import Elements, and the file will be added to the media library and not uploaded to any third-party service.
For other devices: Add the --host parameter (such as pnpm dev --host 0.0.0.0) at startup, and the phone or tablet within the same LAN can be accessed through your intranet IP.

浏览器打开该地址即可看到 OpenCut 的剪辑界面；首次进入是空白工作区，左上角工具栏可以新建或打开工程。

想给其他设备用：启动时加 --host 参数（如 pnpm dev --host 0.0.0.0），同一局域网内的手机或平板就能通过你的内网 IP 访问。
Step 4: Cut out your first clip第四步：剪出你的第一段成片
In the media library, drag a video to the timeline below, use the mouse to drag both ends of the clip to crop the length, drag the middle to adjust the position, and split the cut button on the timeline toolbar.
Insert the transition at the junction of the two tracks, adjust the length and direction of the transition in the right property panel, and try to find a non-obtrusive rhythm several times.
Add subtitles: Select the text tool to drag the text box input in the preview screen and adjust the font; the subtitle entry and exit time can be dragged directly on the timeline to align the audio in the text fragment.
Soundtrack and narration: Drag the audio to a separate track, stretch or crop the aligned screen, and use the volume slider to depress the background music and raise the vocals.
Export: Click on the top right corner to export, select the resolution and format, and then render. It is recommended to play the full movie again before exporting, to confirm that there is no sound and art out of sync.
Please save and back up the project files regularly - when upgrading the self-hosted version, first back up the project and then update the source code to avoid version differences causing the project to be unable to open.
在媒体库把一段视频拖到下方时间线，用鼠标拖动片段两端裁剪长度，拖动中间调整位置；分割用时间线工具条上的切割按钮。
在两条轨道衔接处插入转场，在右侧属性面板调整转场时长与方向，多试几次找到不突兀的节奏。
加字幕：选择文字工具在预览画面里拖出文本框输入内容，调字体；字幕的出入时间可直接在时间线拖动文字片段对齐音频。
配乐与旁白：把音频拖到独立音轨，拉伸或裁剪对齐画面，用音量滑块压低背景音乐、抬起人声。
导出：点右上角导出，选择分辨率与格式后渲染；导出前建议先播一遍全片，确认没有音画不同步。
工程文件请定期另存备份——自托管版本升级时，先备份工程再更新源码，避免版本差异导致工程打不开。
Step 5: Deploy to your own domain for your team第五步：部署到自己的域名给团队用
First, execute the build command locally (usually pnpm build) to produce a static output directory (such as dist or .output/public).
Deployment mode is optional: transfer the output directory to any static hosting (Cloudflare Pages, Vercel, Netlify); if you go to build your own server, use Nginx to point to the directory and configure HTTPS.
If you want to put editing power on the public network for your team to share, be sure to add a layer of access control (Cloudflare Access, Basic Auth, or Intranet VPN) to avoid naked footage on the public network.
The official online version of opencut.app runs this classic version, which can be checked against official behavior when self-hosting encounters problems.
